Self Assesment : Kindling Enterprises : Life Transformation Self Assessment

Sometimes life just doesn’t seem to work, and the thought of changing can be completely overwhelming. You don’t know if you’ve got what it takes.  The fact that you’re reading this means that part of you wants life to be different.  Whether you, or a loved one, are battling an addiction - we want you to know that you don’t have to do this alone.

The “Live Free” Program is a full-time residential experience, based at our Life-Transformation Centre in Kyabram.  It is all about helping men, 18 years and over, to change their lives and to be empowered to live free from drug and alcohol dependency and other life-controlling issues (such as gambling, sex addiction, depression, etc.)

Mission Statement

To provide youth, adults and families with an effective and comprehensive solution to life-controlling problems, including drug and alcohol dependency, in order to become productive members of society. By applying sound principles, Teen Challenge endeavours to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive.

2010

The Live Free program is alive and well! The program closed for one week over Christmas and all the men in recovery returned from the holiday break. We have had a substantial amount of inquiries and intake during January. We are currently reaching our capacity for intake and are thrilled that God is sending men to be transformed.  I believe that God wants Teen Challenge to be at full capacity consistently. We need some things to change for this to be a reality. We need more trained staff to be mentors. Each man in the program has a personal mentor. We need more staff housing so we can offer potential mentors a place to live.

I want to share some of my story with you today. I needed help. I was addicted to drugs, sex and alcohol, I had lived 21 years in addiction. I had been involved with church and the Christian community for my whole life. Bible College- did it, Overseas missions- 3 months, Served as a youth leader, children's leader, Alpha leader, Home Group leader, Worship team, and on and on. I studied Chrisitan counselling and even became a qualifed counsellor.   I was deceived and totally sick of life. I had tried suicide before but this time I was determined. I set Oct 28th  as the day so I wouldn't have to have another birthday. I planned it all and I was going to do it. I was asked by a friend to reconsider the Live Free Program at Teen Challenge.  I decided to fill in all the applications as a last effort before death. I was told there was a waiting list because they were full; to me, this confirmed my need to die because there was no help, no hope for me. Then a phone call came, it was Simon Williams telling me that I could come into the program. My life was spared, my wife still has a husband, my four children are not fatherless and my parents still have a son.

Today, there are men on the waiting list, will they live to make it here? I don't know. Last year 3 men took their own lives waiting for help. I've cried buckets of tears for these men, but that doesn't pay wages or construct housing. We have so many wonderful and faithful partners who consistently donate to this ministry. But, they can't do it alone. Will you consider saving a life? The cost is so minimal, it's just money. It's so easy, we can do it, you can do it.
